On Monday, December 9th 2024, the Chinese government said the State Administration for Market Regulation has opened a investigation into Nvidia’s acquisition of Mellanox and some of the deals that Nvidia made in that purchase. Nvidia acquired Mellanox Technologies in 2020, that deal needed to be cleared by  Chinese antitrust regulators because both of these companies have a lot of operation in China.

South China Morning Post has announced that NVIDIA could lose 1 billion dollars because of Beijing’s antitrust probe. According to Yahoo finance ” The move, considered retaliation against Washington’s chip restrictions, marks the first time that China’s market regulator has opened the books on a closed deal. “This means that retaliatory against Washington’s chip restrictions, represents the first time China’s market regulator has investigated a closed deal.

NVIDIA has made $35.08 billion in revenue or 93.61% since last year (this quarter). NVIDIA has made a net income of $19.31 Billion dollars or 108.9% more then last year. NVIDIA’s diluted EPS ( Diluted EPS shows a company’s profitability per share, considering all potential shares from convertible securities.) was 0.78 and 110.81% higher then last years diluted EPS. The net operating income for this quarter is 21.87B or 109.94% more then last year.

Vietnam Research facility

NVIDIA is opening its first research center in Vietnam. This new facility will be primarily focused on AI. NVIDIA’s new partnership with the Vietnamese government will be able to use Vietnam’s tech geniuses. The CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang said “We are delighted to open NVIDIA’s R&D center to accelerate Vietnam’s AI journey,”

The Vietnam R&D Center will develop new platforms of NVIDIA and partners to make new innovation. For example, researchers can develop the AI applications that would be needed in leading industries like health, education, transport, or financial services.

NVIDIA has been investing in Vietnam’s technology over the past eight years. This company collaborates with over 100 Vietnamese AI operations through its Inception program and with 65 universities within the nation. Last year, NVIDIA started working with FPT Smart Cloud as the company’s first Vietnamese cloud partner.
